Snowman Craft

I came across something like this a while ago and decided to re-create it. However, I chose to re-create it as a kid friendly craft. The one I found was a bit difficult for kids to do, and I thought it was just too cute

What you need:  outgrown sweater or felt on embroidery hoops and some buttons or beads.

Decorate it the way you like! Easy no sew craft :)

I chose to glue glitter felt onto the hoops because it seemes to be easier for the kids. I got a childs scraf from the dollar store and used it for the scarf and hat. Fun and cute!

I added it to a pre-made wreath.

Have you tried this craft? I would love to see it!
What are your thoughts on this craft idea for kids?

Tre' Chic

I stole this idea from my friend Jen over at  http://sleekunique.blogspot.com/ (check her out she's awesome). I absolutely love anything that is a blank canvas that I can create something onto. In this case, wooden trays. They are extremely affordable and easy to decorate. You can buy a pre-painted one and add personal touches but, I prefer just a plain wooden tray.

The possibilities are endless. You can use it as a centerpiece by filling the tray with sand, stones, marbles, etc…. and then placing pillar candles on top. You can paint them, scrap them , do a funky mosaic or decoupage. You can use it as a laptop table.  My new favorite way to use them is as a kids art table. Or, in this case, art chalkboard table.

Here are a few examples followed by the blackboard tray that I made.

Decorative Centerpiece Trays

Decoupage Trays

Mosaic Trays

Chalkboard/Art Table Tray
This is what it looked like before...

and after.....

I used a foldable wooden tray so when he plays with it he can use it as an art desk. i also used white and black chalkboard paint. You can buy them in the spray paint or craft paint. I used craft paint. I them free hand painted the Dr.Seuss and sprayed that section (only) with clean enamel so it won't chip or scratch. You don't want to spray over the chalkboard paint because then you won't be able to use the chalk on the tray. I used wood letter and painted them with craft paint then hot glued them to the tray. You don't have to decorate the tray you can just paint it in any chalkboard color/s of your choice and it's ready to go.

So what do you think of the crafty tray ideas?

Vintage Oh La La

Okay, so this blog is totally my new addiction! Which means I will be doing a lot more crafty stuff so I can share my projects with everyone. I am VERY into vintage looking things. While house hunting I've been looking for design ideas for the house. I've come to the conclusion that I am a total vintage girl. Plus how can you go wrong with vintage, it's timeless right?!? Anywhoo, I have been seeing these (see pic below) everywhere on etsy and said to myself "I can make that!" So, I did. And here it is....

Okay so, it's not my best....for 3 reasons. 1- I did it in like 10 minutes and 2 I couldn't find my darn black sharpie so I had to use navy blue and 3 I could only find a hideous frame to use in my example.  Considering those 2 reasons it's not too shabby. I plan on doing a really nice one of a bulldog because I can't get enough of my big lug of a bulldog that I feel the need to decorate my house with bulldog inspired art. Of course I have to make it vintage looking to match everything else. I will post it once it's finished.

How to create this you ask? I'll tell you how I did it.

To create:
First get a dictionary or an old newspaper. (I chose an outdated dictionary)
Next, you have 2 options.
Option 1- You can print the image onto the page itself. If you choose to do this try to find a picture that has a transparent background., or else the picture will print out with the colored background taking away from the vintage look. You can search transparent background images in any search engine. If you use photoshop you can just make make the image of your choice transparent. I like the black out look. The color is pretty but if there is color I prefer little bursts. The second option would probably be best if you like the black out look as well. Again, if you are familiar with photoshop you can make the image all black.

To create:
First get a dictionary or an old newspaper. (I chose an outdated dictionary), glue (preferably scrapbook glue) and scissors.
You simply print the picture out, color it with a black marker (or color of your choice). Make sure you color the picture a few times to get out any streaks. Then you cut the image out and paste it onto the piece of paper of your choice.
 Here are example pics:

This is the pic I chose to color. (I'm obsessed with birds)

I mirrored the image so I could place 2 images on my paper. Don't worry about how perfect you color because you are going to cut it out.

Cut out the pictures and paste the pictures on the vintage styled paper. I also added a little heart for that burst of color.

I chose the dictionary page that had "Bird" on it, just for the heck of it. I would have been happier with it if I had used black on the birds but it's still cute.

You can also print the image onto the page itself. Again, if you are familiar with photoshop you can make the image all black.
Using this option you can print the image directly onto the paper of choice. When printing, I personally like the picture in the center of the page. You have that option when clicking print. You might want to do a test try with the printing so you know where on the page it will print out.

If you try this tutorial, leave me some feedback and let me know how it came out or send some pics over. I would love to see what you create!

3D Squares....I'm stuck on you!

I love scrapbooking but, I love making special photos for people even more. I have fallen in love with these 3d foam squares. They are amazing and easy to use. They can make any craft project POP with a 3D look. The best part is that you can stick them on top of each other to make the picture/craft paper/etc really pop out as much as you want. It's my new favorite thing to use. People are wow'd by the look.  It doesn't have to be a scrap project, you can use them on anything. Recently, I used shadow boxes and made funky pictures for loved ones.

Here is an example of what you can do with these. I made this using scrap book paper, stickers and a pic of my handsome little cousin. It's a little hard to see the 3D but, you get the idea. ;)
